Measure the inside diameter of the hole on the front or back of the door. Write these measurements down. Take the measurements and the old door knob with you to the hardware store.

Doorknob shopping

There may be many different doorknobs in which to choose. Look at your old unit. Try to get a similar replacement. It will be simpler and easier to install. Buy the best one that you can afford. Cheap doorknobs may not last long. They may not work well either. If you get a good one, you might never have to concern yourself with it again.

Preparations

Tools needed
